The sensation of warm water running over your feet combined with the relaxing vibrations of a massaging chair…sounds intoxicating, right? Even better, you get your toenails painted to your desire. Want a cute little flower? How about some sparkling rhinestones? Done! And your fingernails? Don’t get me started! You can choose from length, color, design, and so much more.

Manicures and pedicures can provide the utmost relaxation, not to mention beautifully detailed fingers and sandal-ready feet. However, with the rise of nail care popularity, how do you know which beauty salon will provide you with the best service or the safest conditions?

Nail salons are popping up all over. If you live in the city, or even a moderately populated town, you probably know the location of several nail shops. While business is booming for these nail salons, clean service is sometimes exchanged for the number of clients they can serve. How many times have you entered a packed salon, where you should have been turned away, but instead they squeezed you in?

While you might like to think that your nail salon of choice is up to par on sanitation, you could be dangerously wrong. It’s as easy as cutting one’s nail (and oops! a little bit of their skin at the same time) and then using that same set of clippers, that haven’t been cleaned properly – or at all – on you. That action can spread several scary infections. 

Just think of the feet alone. Do you know how easily athlete’s foot can be caught? Not to mention warts, fungus, bacteria, and much more. According to ABC News, Kristina Preston of Colorado was awarded $3.1 million in 2002 after allegedly contracting herpes from non-sterile nail salon equipment that was used on her during a manicure. Although this is obviously an extreme example, and a rare one at that, it shows that it is possible for an infection to spread.

If you insist on getting a manicure or a pedicure, make sure that the beauty salon is clean! Nail care sure looks, and usually feels, great. Sometimes it’s just not worth sacrificing pain for beauty. Take notice of where the utensils are kept; check to see if the person helping you has his or her license displayed. 

If the manicurist or pedicurist is too rough with the tools used on your hands or nails, tell them!

There is nothing wrong with making regular trips to the salon, just remember: make certain you are in a sanitary setting, and if you ever feel uncomfortable in a nail salon, you are not obligated to employ their services.

On this week’s installment of The Hills on MTV, the rift between Lauren Conrad and Spencer Pratt has evolved into a veritable hate-fest. The latest victim to be swallowed up in the drama is poor Brody Jenner, who was pronounced an “Enemy” by Spencer, his childhood buddy. What travesty did Brody commit to earn this shame? He is “rolling around with” (Spencer’s words) the Heart of Evil, otherwise known as Lauren Conrad!

Later, Brody found consolation when he met Lauren, Audrina Patridge and a guy friend named Frankie (who seems to have appeared out of nowhere on The Hills Season 3), at Hollywood’s historic Roosevelt Hotel. Sipping on drinks from the Tropicana Poolside Bar, the gang collectively agreed that Spencer’s friendship rules belong on the school playground. As a Reality TV newbie, Frankie neglected to censor himself, making mention of Lauren’s recent “friendly sleepover” at Brody’s condo. Clearly annoyed that he did this during a taping of MTV’s The Hills, Lauren started to put Frankie in his place. But then she gave up and smiled it off. 

(Heidi declares her innocence once again, placing the blame on Brody for Lauren’s troubles.)

With these developments fresh in her mind as well, Heidi Montag headed over to Doughboy’s Bakery to catch up with Jen Bunney. We noticed something different about Jen immediately, as did Heidi (who went under her own transformation this year as well). Not only does Jen look different, she also appears more confident. Find an excellent rhinoplasty surgeon, did ya Jen? As expected, Jen spent her time with Heidi lamenting over the strife they have both experienced with Lauren. Heidi, with dramatic emphasis, proclaimed, “Brody Jenner is her new friend? It was Brody Jenner who started those rumors!”

So now, with yet another person accused of spreading lies throughout The Hills, I am really starting to wonder: Will we ever learn the truth?

This week on Dr. 90210:

For the first time this season, or that we can recall, the patients and procedures featured seem to take a backseat to some of the show’s Beverly Hills plastic surgeons. Although we do see the transformation of a young woman who gains extreme confidence with breast augmentation, the focal point of episode 6 is Dr. Robert Rey and the anticipation of his return to Brazil.

The event that we have been eagerly awaiting since last year finally unfolded on this week’s episode of Dr. 90210. After about 20 years of estrangement, Dr. Rey comes face-to-face with his ailing, so-called unaffectionate father.

With Hayley’s blessing and high hopes in the heart of Dr. Rey, a popular Los Angeles plastic surgeon, he returns to Sao Paulo to see his father for the first time in years. Curious to know what happened at their father-son reunion?
