If you are seeking a fashionable way to send a message with substance, Girl On Top Clothing (GOT) is the way to go! From everyday women to celebrities, such as Kendra from “The Girls Next Door,” the masses are really starting to take notice of all that this clothing line has to offer. Thanks to Beauty Chat’s blogging buddy Nikki over at Fashion Frenzy, I was introduced to the styles of this up-and-coming line – and now I’m hooked.
I recently interviewed Jon Paul, the fabulous creator of GOT, and here’s what he had to say:
Leeann: Please explain the name Girl On Top…
Jon Paul: Its GIRL POWER baby! Our name says it all. Girl On Top Clothing exists so that women have a brand that empowers their existence. We make ready-to-wear apparel and custom couture designs for today’s empowered women. Since we believe that life is not about finding yourself, it is about creating yourself; Girl On Top Clothing creates trend-setting looks that contribute to female leaders defining themselves.
L: I love the fact that the name of the brand really catches people’s attention! Do you think that it draws customers in?
JP: Oh it totally does. Every time someone hears the name they say, “Ooooh…I like that,” or, “Love the Name,” or “I completely agree,” and “Where can I buy it?” The name is sassy, sexy, and seductive, which is our tagline by the way. Whether they see it or hear it, everyone wants to know more about it.
L: What inspired you to start the clothing line 3 years ago?
JP: This idea came to me when I was designing a new logo for my previous clothing endeavor, H8R Wear. I was using the symbols for Mars and Venus to create an eight, when I placed Venus over Mars I shouted out loud, “Hey look girl on top.” I said to myself, I like how that sounds…. I am going to save this for a side project one day. Well that “one day” came sooner than later. After a few months, I left the company because of creative differences and Girl On Top Clothing was born.
L: When people request custom-designed garments, what are their options?
JP: People mostly request these garments during, or after, they see one being made. I do live, interactive fashion performances at charity events, exhibitions, and our fashion shows and events. Spectators get to see the transformation from fabric to fashion. It’s live, it’s art, and it’s an interactive wearable. Their options are custom tops, two-piece separates (skirt-top combo), or a dress (full-length or mini).
L: I can’t name one other brand that is easily accessible to the people in the sense of the designer making custom clothing specific to the client. Do you feel that that is an asset that helps you retain customers?
JP: This service really does help retain clients. By creating these one of a kind wearable’s, they feel special because their garment is just that — one of a kind. I ask each client in-depth questions regarding their personality, their attitude, and their lifestyle to help give the garment their persona. Crafted by my hands, from our minds, for their bodies. By offering this service we do separate ourselves from other brands.
L: Being from San Diego, do you plan on opening stores all over, or are you going to keep it a local brand?
JP: We strive to empower women globally, so we are planning to have stores and showrooms globally. Our quest just begins in San Diego and online.
L: Is there anything else that you would like our readers to know?
JP: Our Web address is girlontopclothing.com, and on Feb 28th I will be showing my spring collection. The show will be in San Diego at a venue called THIN in the downtown Gaslamp District.
Look for an upcoming blog about my experience at the GOT fashion show in San Diego. I will be accompanied by my Beauty Chat trendsetters Elana and Andrea, and we are very excited to see Jon Paul’s latest creations on the runway!
