With all of the so-called “active ingredients” that are found in skin care products, we sometimes forget to ask: “What is that ingredient, anyway – and why do I need it?” I started to wonder this myself recently, particularly in regards to peptides, which many products list as an active ingredient. Hence, my quest to delve into the mystery of peptides commenced. Here’s what I found out:
Peptides are short chains of amino acids (if we reflect back on our days in health and science classes, we remember that amino acids are the building blocks of proteins). Not only are peptides created in the body, they are often well-absorbed by the bloodstream; this is what makes them so great for skin care!
The types of peptides that are particularly useful for our skin have a few too many letters in their names, so suffice it to say that if your product contains peptides, it will often say so right on the box. However, if it doesn’t claim to have any, and you wish to do some sleuthing of your own, check out this list of the primary peptides to look for in skin care.
While gathering my info, I also learned that several of the products I use contain a healthy dose of peptides. One of them, the Hydropeptide Mask from Azure Cosmeceuticals, is the very item that peaked my interest in the first place (after all, it’s in the product name). It actually contains eleven collagen-boosting peptides! Since my skin is gradually becoming firmer, I know it works. I also learned that my favorite potion to dab around the eyes, Sircuit Skin Secret Sauce, is fortified with peptides as well. So, it looks like I’m getting enough of this essential skin care component!
How about you?

Oh my gosh!!! I love hydropeptide. I use the hydropeptide face and it is amazing. I’ll have to try the mask too. I didn’t realize it had so many peptides.

I’m so happy you adddressed this ingredient, Brook! I’m sure tons of our Beauty Chat readers who are have cabinets full of skincare and beauty products are enjoying this info., if they always wondered about peptides and what is actually IN their products.

I found out about Hydropeptide by Azure Cosemeceuticals from a friend. I love it. I love that the Hydropeptide face corrective cream has the 3 peptides plus 11 antioxidants. It goes on smoothly and my skin feels wonderful after. Not only is it a wonderful cream, I’m noticing that it’s lessening the appearance of the lines around my mouth. Their whole anti-aging product line is amazing. I got rid of all the other anti-aging products I had before. This one is here to stay.

I just saw Stacey’s comment, and am so glad to know that you guys are familiar with peptides and the products that contain them. You could probably teach me something!
If I try out additional products from Azure, I’ll be sure to let you know how they work for me!

I turn 45 this year and my wife told me I’m “looking older”, whatever that means. I had to go to the dermatologist for a skin condition I have on my knee. While visiting the derm I asked her if there was anything I could do about “looking older”. She suggested using something with peptides. So I got on line and found this HydroPeptide line. I wasn’t going to trust it myself so I had my derm check it out. Now, it’s 2 months later and my derm sells it at her office and my wife has already said I’m “looking younger.”

Well, I have to say that if you’re going to trust anyone’s opinion, you should trust your wife’s (and yes, I am one!) Thanks for sharing your story.

Ok now I want to try the mask and the cleanser but wow, peptides are not cheap, are they?! Anyways, it is good to hear about something that works from someone I know instead of just someout out there who you wonder if they are getting paid something to say something works when it really doesn’t… firmer skin is always a plus!!

You are right Peptides are usefull. DHC has a line of Argireline I might try. I already use Sheer Cover’s toner which my skin loves which has Copper Peptides in it, it keeps my face from breaking out as well.
thanks
