Do you remember those old, yet timeless films with the glamorous Ava Gardner or Jane Russell? Three words can sum up the cinematic effect these women had on audiences – “Beautiful. Arresting. Mysterious.” In today’s Hollywood, it seems like that said glamour has been tucked away with those same film canisters from the 40s and 50s; as few actresses portray that vintage magnetism (ahem, Monica Bellucci). Not for long, however, if Gabriela Hernandez has anything to do with it!
As the Designer and CEO of Bésame Cosmetics, Gabriela’s focus is to provide “a statement type of product” that exudes those glamour traits in every woman. With a background in fine arts, her natural inclination was to create a cosmetics line infused with an intensity of color reminiscent of old Hollywood, duplicating reds (from Red Velvet to Merlot) during the earlier eras. Based on her less is more mantra, she inspires women to “remove the aesthetic layers and wear the products by themselves, focusing attention on their best features.”

The Spanish word Bésame (“Kiss me”) stems from the classic song “Bésame Mucho,” composed by Mexican songwriter, Consuelo Velázquez. Gabriela comments, “It is a pervasive song that many people can relate to.” I personally love this song, especially the Luis Miguel version, and the lyrics definitely transcend the alluring feel of the makeup line, making you embrace your inner “woman of elegance and effortless style who is amongst other fine qualities.”
Gabriela is a personality embodiment of her product, possessing grace, beauty and vigor. With roots stemming from Buenos Aires, Argentina, she also has some words for the Latina hoping to become a successful entrepreneur of her own. She says to “have an idea of what you want, what you’re going to do, and have a plan” is essential to knowing where you are; then find the pieces that are missing in the form of people who can augment your gameplan.
For women of every color: you do not have to choose between your femininity and profession. Being the effortless balance between a woman of influence and a femme fatale – well that’s simply fabulous!
