Last Thursday night, Elana, Dre, and I had the privilege of attending the Girl on Top (GOT) Spring Fashion Show in the heart of San Diego — the Gaslamp District. Hosted at an ultra-trendy lounge/ bar, Thin (The Onyx Room), Jon Paul (the creator of the line, and the designer I interviewed for my past blog:“Girl On Top: Empowerment for Women”) and his models rocked the runway.
Jon Paul and GOT manager Cara Monday were gracious hosts that invited us to take in our surroundings. We were lucky enough to hang out backstage to check out all that leads up to a GOT fashion show.
Amongst the hair, makeup, and oh-so-fabulous clothing, was a team of dedicated professionals gearing up for an action-packed performance.
After speaking with Jon Paul and Cara, as well as watching a bit of the photo shoot that was also taking place, the three of us headed over to some catwalk-side seats (retro bar stools, actually).
The show started off with 50s-inspired swimwear, very reminiscent of the classic pin-up girl style. We immediately fell in love with these pieces, as well as the other suits that varied in genre, including the sailor look.
Next were the adorable, and comfy-looking, GOT sweat suits in various shades of velour. The last staple of Jon Paul’s spring collection were dresses that ranged from funky and retro to flowing and flawless.
Overall, we were quite impressed. The clothing was marvelous and the show was high-energy. It was entertaining to see the models personalities on the runway. Some of them really thrived on the live DJ, showing off their spunk and charisma. And the others were just as fierce, skillfully displaying the designer’s prided collection.
The night was a success for Jon Paul and the entire GOT team. Job well-done!
