We’ve all heard that “cleanliness is next to godliness.” Well, in my beauty-conscious mind, so is good skincare. I have admittedly battled that frustrating thing called acne, which actually isn’t just “frustrating” – it can feel more like utter torture.
For me, I had the clear, porcelain-like skin in high school, wearing anything so much as face powder. Those were so the days. But then came college. While discovering eyebrow threading and chic fashion styles, pimples were actively finding me! Fun times? Guess again…
Much like my neurotic hunt for curly hair products, my search for good skincare remedies have not gone unwarranted, especially if Dr. Susan Evans has anything to do with it.

Located in Beverly Hills of Southern California, Dr. Evans is known as a premier dermatologist who is simply “good at what [she] does” (you might recognize her from Dr. 90210 on E!) With over 12 years of experience in a number of skin care issues, she continues to meet the needs of her patients, especially those suffering from acne.
I myself have tried many skincare treatments – some that have totally worked and others that have disappointingly not. Privy to the notion “you should look as good as you feel,” Dr. Evans personalized her own line, Refresh Skin Care, which I had the pleasure of testing out for myself. The packaging is a key indicator of what’s to come, as it’s simply refreshing. Inside is a clean-scented product, infused with natural ingredients that aim to directly control hormonal acne (be sure to note that a change in hormones is one of the most common causes of acne.)
After a couple of weeks, I started to notice my lower cheeks (the area where my acne is the most prevalent) clear up. I especially like the “Acne Clear Toner,” which is just strong enough to target acne flairs without over-drying.
Dr. Evans’ line offers a refreshing solution to blemishes, but she also points out that other remedies may also be able to remedy your facial imperfections. From topical (i.e. Tretinoin) to oral (i.e. Minocycline) medication, she discusses other acne treatments that your dermatologist might prescribe to help treat your skin. However, Refresh has the advantage of a physician-formulated solution without the prescription.

Remember, anyone can get acne despite racial background or age. Even the people that seem to rank socially high on the beauty totem pole get facial blemishes (ahem, the stunning Tameka Jacobs from Deal or No Deal). Remember, makeup can do wonders; however, why wear layers of powder and foundation when you can find a regimen that fits you and your lifestyle? You too can get clearer skin with the help of a refreshing product and, in many cases, a good dermatologist.
What skin care regimen has worked for you?

Sounds like a good line! Ironically, I heard about a few of the Deal or No Deal girls signing up with a new skin care company, but I believe it is a different one.

I’m 30 and let me tell you, there’s nothing worse than wrinkles and breakouts! When I’m going through a rough patch (stressed at work, traveling or too many french fries), I love the Mario Badescu Anti-acne serum. It has sal acid which really clears up my breakouts without overdrying my skin!
