Sex and the City — The Silver Screen’s Fashionable Females

Posted by Leeann at 4:16 pm

Okay, what I’m about to tell you may be shocking so don’t get crazy…I’m not a Sex and the City fan. Before you jump to conclusions and assume that I’m out of my mind, let me explain. It’s not that I dislike the show and am dreading the movie premiere, it’s just that I never got into it. So, you can categorize me as a girl who doesn’t know what she’s missin’.

Despite the fact that I know little to nothing about the characters, I do know that their fashion is superb, despite the sometimes out-there outfits. The few clips that I have seen of the pop culture phenom (television and movie) reflect the couture styles that most women only dream of draping themselves in. However, the clothes may be more easily attained than you think.

The ladies of Sex and the City

Take, for example, this Maggy London Printed Silk Dress. Miranda is pictured in it above, and you can purchase it for $150 on Dillards.com. So maybe the wardrobes of the Sex and the City starlets aren’t outrageously priced. More »

Somme Many Skincare Choices, What’s a Girl to Do?

Posted by Denice at 9:15 am

As I enter my early 30s (yikes, it hurts to say that), I realize that I am in desperate need for a good skincare regimen. I have never really used a formal skincare program. I wash my face in the shower and use cleansing towelettes at night, but eye cream and toners were never part of my facial to-do list, until now.

I have been using the Somme Institute 5-step skincare program for the past 4 weeks and I would just like to say, I am hooked! I can’t believe how nice my skin looks. I have noticed a bit more oiliness than before, but I attribute that to better hydration.

Are These Runway Hairstyles for You?

Posted by Brook at 3:22 pm

It seems like just yesterday: I was thumbing through my favorite magazine in search of new hairstyles, only to find myself in utter disbelief at the sight of the outrageously tall, untamed do’s worn by most of the models. I think the year was 1989…no, wait – it really was only yesterday!

Big hair on the runway is all the rage

The magazine: Marie Claire. The models: Otherwise lovely girls that walked in recent Marc Jacobs and Roberto Cavalli shows. And for the record, that 80s comment isn’t meant to be catty. It’s just that something about looking at these styles instantly transports me back to that era, when fashion magazines featured photos of hairstyles most women wouldn’t dream of emulating in real life.

Looking Back-Shecky’s Girl’s Night Out

Posted by Sarah at 1:09 pm

Last Thursday, fellow Beauty Chatters Jacquie, Leeann, and I — along with our PlasticSurgery.com co-worker Stephanie — attended Shecky’s Girls Night Out in Santa Monica. As we embarked on our two hour trip through rush hour traffic and rain, little did we know what they had in store for us at the event.

As we entered the Barker Hangar, turned fashion extravaganza, we were blown away with the number of women shoppers and vendors surrounding us. Filled with fun, drinks, clothes, jewelry, handbags, and the latest trends, Shecky’s was truly a night to remember.

(Jacquie, Sarah, and Leeann)

Our first mission was to pick up our complimentary totes, which were filled with a variety of products for the skin, face, body, and mind. After acquiring our free goodies, we slowly made our way through the crowd of anxious fashion lovers. With items marked down 10 to 75 percent off their original prices, we tried to scout out the deals we found most alluring. More »

From Natural-Looking Makeup to Nighttime Glam!

Posted by Jennifer at 4:29 pm

I have many friends who have complained about not being able to get natural-looking makeup for their everyday activities. So I have come up with some simple tips for all of those who want to look good without much effort. It took a lot time to play, I mean research, in order to get some simple, yet amazing techniques.

I like to start out by covering all of my little imperfections with Lancôme’s Maquicomplet Complete Coverage Concealer. I was able to find the perfect match to my skin tone and now don’t have to worry about dark circles under my eyes. It also hides little red spots on my forehead, chin and around my nose. Then I use Sephora Double Compact Mineral powder foundation with SPF 10. It’s great for my skin because it allows my pores to breathe unlike other powders that clog the pores.

To keep my face looking simple it’s important not to add too much color. This is why I turn to MAC’s Fafi Eyes 1 Quad. More »

Handbag of the Month – Best Out-of-the-Ordinary Purse

Posted by Sarah at 3:38 pm

Besides my boyfriend, it’s the only other thing I can’t stand to be without – my purse!

A good handbag has been my best friend for the past 23 years. Your purse can be a reflection of how you live your life, upkeep yourself, and in some cases, it may be as important as a first impression.

Most women are usually striving to look their best. From our hair, to our body, skin, and clothes, we are always dressed to impress. So why not complete the package with an insanely cute purse? It can be an important staple of your fashion statement, while serving the dual purpose of carrying around all your necessary belongings to make it through the day. Because of this, it is essential that a handbag meet both needs of the day. More »

Beauty Chat Wins Award at the First Annual Total Beauty Blog Summit!

Posted by Leeann at 1:38 pm

Over the weekend, Beauty Chatter Denice and I had the pleasure of attending the first annual Total Beauty Blog Summit, and we were ecstatic to learn that Beauty Chat was named the best blog design!

Beauty Chat wins best design award!

(Leeann, Emrah Kovacoglu of Total Beauty, and Denice)

New to the community of 100 or so beauty blogs (thanks to our friend Erika of Total Beauty and Makeup Bag), we were more than thrilled to head down to Manhattan Beach, just outside of Los Angeles, for a few days of mingling, learning, and indulging in the beauty industry.

To kick off the experience, Intelligent Beauty held a very glam reception, complete with beautiful people, great food, an open bar, and even shadowbox dancers. The mood was very LA and everyone in attendance appreciated the company’s exquisiteness and kindness. (There was even a celebrity guest! Dayna Devon of TV’s EXTRA and her plastic surgeon husband, Brent Moelleken, who has appeared on “Extreme Makeover.”)

It was an honor to meet with our other beauty bloggers and put a face to the witty words that we read on a daily basis. Seeing the group as a whole was definitely an inspiration, as well as a testament to the dedication that we all have for our blogging and beauty passion. More »
