June 1st marked the day that Beauty Chat turned a year old [proud teardrop].
You see, this blog originally developed as a social networking project between me and Randy. Our goal at that time was to reach out to the beauty and plastic surgery communities, with our original “Look good, feel good, and speak on it!” philosophy. Turns out this idea not only paved the personality of Beauty Chat; we learned that there are a lot of others out there who feel the same way. You know, the non-judgmental chatterboxes (like us) who love talking about the latest this and that.
Turns out, there are TONS of you – our local, national, and international friends – who have subscribed to Beauty Chat and even have a favorite “Beauty Chatter.” I mean, with 10 writers on staff, including myself, a very productive project editor (Denice) and an eye-for-detail managing editor (Leeann), a fabulous in-house designer (Khevna), and a righteous programmer ( Randy), it only makes sense that you would connect with someone who is just as opinionated as you are!
Really, when it comes down to it, the team that makes up Beauty Chat is, like, the coolest group you could ever meet. (Sorta kidding, but not really.)
Here are some of our proud topics and/or moments:
• I was able to “Lipstick Jungle” lunch with Candace Bushnell, the creator of “Sex and the City,” at the Four Seasons in L.A. in June ’07; it was that moment I learned a movie was “possibly” in the works – straight from her! Oh, and who can forget our exciting Bejeweled photo shoot!?
• Mellori chatting about the “art of eyebrow threading” as the beginning of her onslaught of ethnic beauty topics, and developing an amazing friendship with Cibu International.
• Brook’s famous science-behind-skincare articles, in addition to weekly review of “The Hills” on MTV (even when she could barely tolerate the Heidi and Spencer, er, “Speidi” drama), and her interview with its past character, Elodie Otto regarding her new skincare line.
• Leeann hitting backstage at a fashion show to interview the designer of “Girl On Top,” Jon Paul. Her interview with boutique mogul Lisa Kline is still a moment for us to revel in!
• The newly-built, blossoming relationship between Total Beauty and Beauty Chat – thanks to our very own, Denice. And you know you can always count on “Neecy” to give you the latest on foot rejuvenation.
• Jacquie’s personal story regarding weight loss, motherhood (Norah and Jonas are the cutest!), and keeping her sanity in the process. Oh yeah, remember to say Yes to Carrots when you get the chance!
• Andrea’s insight to the art of applying eye shadow during our COLORON photo shoot, and mixing shades for a va-voom look, especially for those of us who could use the assistance (ahem…me!)
• The brilliance of Jennifer’s first post on plastic surgery: her promo on “My Beautiful Mommy.” And being based in Southern California, how could she not give tips on how to avoid sun damage?
• Sarah’s new “handbag of the month” series for readers who are just as purse-obsessed as she is! Her chic style definitely comes through her writing.
• Stephanie (our newest Beauty Chatter!) and her first product review: skinHarmony Pure Skin Care and joining Sarah, Leeann, and Jacquie for “Shecky’s Girls Night Out.”
Also, in honor of Beauty Chat’s birthday, all of us decided to answer this question:
“What does Beauty Chat’s 1-year mark mean to me?”
Me (Elana): “It’s so fabulous to see an experiment turn into a full-fledged blog that attracts both male and female readers. I work with an amazing group of talented individuals, all who I am very proud to call my fellow Beauty Chatters. Witnessing the growth of Beauty Chat is an indescribable feeling and an accomplishment that we can all enjoy.”
Randy: “It’s a nice feeling to be one of the creators of
Beauty Chat and be able to watch how it has grown within just 1 year to be a favorite destination for thousands of Internet users a week and even win awards. Some people wait years to experience growth that we have in just 11 months.”
Denice: “I have never really been a beauty products kind
of girl, but Beauty Chat has changed all of that! I went from not using any type of beauty product (outside my normal makeup) to using some of the best products around. I have met amazing women who have started their own companies and are passionate about what they create and do. Beauty Chat has been an inspiration to me, and I am sure to many others.”
Leeann: “I am so proud to be a part of Beauty Chat.
Contributing since the blog’s beginning, I have had the opportunity to watch it — and all of our staff — grow and change over the past year. I can’t wait to see what year number two has in store! I am so appreciative to Elana (Beauty Chat creator) for giving us the ability to express ourselves through this wonderful outlet.”
Mellori: “If I have to sum up Beauty Chat in two words over the last year, it would be – Absolutely Fabulous! I am so happy to be have been apart of this community from the start – having seen it grow from what it started out as to what it is today is amazing!”
Brook: “For me, Beauty Chat is a way to teach and learn
at the same time – I get to share useful info on areas of the beauty industry that interest me, and also learn more about the aspects that are important to others. Don’t we all love to get as much as we can from one source? That’s what I think we offer here.”
Jacquie: “Beauty Chat is a new way for me to express myself. It has helped me come out of my shell and share my point of view with others. I love being part of Beauty Chat and a special thank you to all its members and readers for helping me grow!”
Jennifer: “Beauty Chat has given me the opportunity to
write about topics that I’ve loved all my life. It’s great being able to share my findings with all of our wonderful readers and I love reading everyone else’s posts. I look forward to continue being a part of such a wonderful team!”
Khevna: “Beauty Chat gave me an opportunity to design an award-winning blog.”
Dre: “I love Beauty Chat Blog because of our contributors and reader’s wide range of thoughts and opinions on what beauty
means to them. It is also a blessing to witness the creativeness that is instilled in my fellow Beauty Chatters each and every day. Overall, I am extremely happy and grateful to be a part of Beauty Chat!”
Sarah: “A place to indulge in my fashion and beauty obsessions, Beauty Chat has offered me the
experience of sharing with readers great deals, trends, fashions, and products that I believe are worthy of recognition. Allowing me the opportunity to become a fellow Beauty Chatter, Beauty Chat, and the team of wonderful bloggers, have made me feel at home and I hope to be continue to bring readers the latest designers, and merchandise for some time to come.”
Stephanie: “I have really enjoyed reading all the posts on Beauty Chat over the past year, I have learned about so many new topics and products. Its exciting to be one of the newest members of Beauty Chat.”
So in celebration of Beauty Chat turning a year old, we are holding a contest for all of our die-hard fans out there!

My fav. post was Jen’s skin protection/tanning article. I have very fair skin and it’s hard to find good products to use to keep safe in the sun and to build a natural looking tan.
Happy Anniversary! hopefully we’ll be getting great beauty tips for many more years to come!

Being a foot snob myself, I am a big fan of all of Denice’s posts. I tune in regularily to see what she has found in that area! My very close second would be Jacquie’s post on Yes to Carrots. I went out that day and bought the shampoo, conditioner, night and eye creams. I have since used everything in that line—and got my mom hooked on it too! That was a wonderful find for me, I have really enjoyed all those products, and since I’m not often in Walgreens, I would not have know they existed without you all. Happy Birthday Beauty Chat, and here’s to many more years and lots of wonderful finds!

i loved the one about the Art of Eye brow Threading. It is such a neat and more precise way to improve the look and shape of your brows. It seems like it is becoming more mainstream. Really would like to have it done.

My favorite was ” A Little Sex and a Whole Lotta City “, because it captured what we all went through when we saw that movie. We all got excited, we all made ourselves look great and we saw a fantastic movie about great women with the women in our own lives. I love SATC because it reminds us to look fabulous.

I always strive to look as fierce, fab and ferosh, so I am always interested in the lasted products! On April 19, 2008, I learned about Travertine Spa Products, a fab new company with products created for girls like me. The company does not only sell spa products…there’s a clothing line, as well. There are even products made for men. If you can squeeze juice from a dollar bill, these products may not be for you, but you get what you pay for here. After reading the article, I purchased Shea hand and nail cream and spent a small fortune, but it was worth every dime. If you are allergic to Shea Butter, do not use the product. I allowed my sister to sample a small amount the product and she had an allergic reaction. It’s not the product…it was her!!! I have experienced nothing except soft hands. The product really works and I will be a customer for life! Ladies, keep introducing us to new products and featuring those business owners who deserve a little limelight. Keep up the excellent work!

I liked Dress Your Age. as a 30-something, I don’t feel like I have to keep up with the 20-somethings…and in some cases, I don’t want to. But it was a reminder, that I can look polished and put together, without showing off too much!

I liked the science behind skin care articles. They were every interesting and helpful.

June 26, 2008 at 4:28 pm
I enjoyed the sunless tanning products reviews. It’s saved me a lot of money by helping me only buy the products that work and don’t turn orange. Also, I like the “best & worst” lists since they again save me from making buying mistakes.

June 26, 2008 at 4:30 pm
I agree…I think the “Dress you Age” article was my favorite. I am still single and in my 30’s, and it’s hard to know what to wear when going out to bars and clubs with a bunch of girls still in their 20’s!!!
June 26, 2008 at 4:39 pm
Up until recently i never really used alot of beauty products other than normal body soap to wash my face and some mascara and eyeliner. After chatting for a little while i got a lot of good advice on easy ways to take care of my skin and not needing alot of time or effort to do so. thank you all who have given me some great advice.

Happy Birthday! This is a wonderful site. I have so many friends that love this site and we are always talking about the blogs!
I have wayyyyy to many that I’ve loved!
Since I’m all about eyebrows, I loved the
threading. The one about the butt implants!!
Wish I had that problems. I also love the “dress your age” article. Sometimes it is very hard to know what you would just look ridiculous in!
Keep up the great work!! You do a wonderful job!

My favorite was “Dress Your Age”. I’m am 42 and it is good to know that, that doesn’t been I have to dress like I’m 16 or like I’m 80. That I can dress trendy, but not look like grandma or like I’m wearing my kids cloths.

I love being able to keep up to date with what’s in style out there in the real world while I’m homebound caring for a sick spouse. I may not get out much but at least when I do I don’t have to look hopelessly behind the times. I feel more confident with your info to rely on.

I was introduced to “eye-brow threading” in California by a lovely and multi-talented manicurist who immigrated from Iran during the 80’s. She told me that the art of using a thread to “pluck” eyebrows had its earliest origins in Iran. (I never verified her claim, but was totally amazed by her painless technique as well as the results) I now live in Kansas and I would love to find another “threader,” though not likely here in rural South-East Kansas!

I’ve always loved trying everything under the sun… but with a tighter wallet and a new baby… and less time to hunt…read ingredients (thank you science behind skincare), and no days free to deal with some of the after affects of using myself as a guinea pig… i so appreciate the information, the honesty, and the money i dedn’t know i was wasting!!!

My favorite article was Dress your Age by Jennifer. I think it’s a good idea to let people know that they should be dressing appropriatly according to how old they are AND what fashions and trends our out. I hate when 60 year olds are wearing extremly short sundresses that are meant for teens. So thanks for the article Jennifer!

My favorite article was Jacquies article on Belly Basic Pregnancy Cream. I used it throughout my second pregnancy and it was a nightly ritual (and sometimes throughout the day). I shared this great article and two jars of Belly Balm with my cousin when she was pregnant and the same with my husband’s cousin when she was pregnant. Everyone agrees that it’s the best – no staining, great smell, silky and yes, it works. My husband enjoyed rubbing it on my belly as well so a great way to get pampered when you need it! Thank you once again!

Before I try or buy a new product now, I come to TOTAL BEAUTY to check out the reviews first. This is one of the most reliable websites on the internet as far as getting info for people like me! BUT — If and when I like a product, I will be one of the first to post a review…It is too hard to single out just one or two of my favorites… This website is as necessary to me as putting on my makeup every day!

My favorite post was the Oct18, 2007 post about dressing professionally in the workplace. I like it because it was straight to the point and it had great examples of how to dress and how not to dress. Since reading it I am more conscience of how I dress at work.

Happy Birthday. Wow to only pick one. I have learned so much. Okay I would have to say the article “No Hair Transplant Surgery for Me” really changed my life. Because of this article I purchased the Pro-Silk Ceramic Dryer. what a difference this dryer had made in my life. I used to have great hair but after three kids the texture changed and all I got was frizz. This dryer has cut down on my drying time and my hair is back to smooth, soft, shiny and NO frizz. Thanks.

I really liked the Girl Hairstyles Blog. It helped give me the courage I needed to get my hair cut and wasn’t sure what style to get or how I would like short hair. It was necessary for the health of my hair and it turned out wonderfully. I have a cut that I’m am very pleased with and get complements every single day. Most people like myself can’t believe I cut it, but I am thrilled!!!!! It’s amazing what a good hair cut can do for your look and your confidence.

I love totalbeauty site because it a total package on every need as far as beauty information.I will be 41 years young in August and because I use all Totalbeauty tips I feel 14 all over again. Thank You and keep up the good work. P.S favorite Article Dress Your Age by Jennifer cause 41 don’t have to look and feel like a old lady if you ladies know what I mean that are in their 40’s and older.

I really like Unraveling the Mystery of Peptides. I still can’t pronounce them but I have a better understanding of what they are and how they work.
