Pear-shaped, hourglass, triangular, and boyish. We’ve all heard these terms, either directed at us personally or at someone passing by. Well, now that we’ve figured out that sizes vary from brand to brand, we can work on dressing for our shape. Not every size 4 is the same shape and, we must therefore search for clothes that flatter our best features.

For those of us that are content with certain areas of our bodies, we already know what to look for because we know what looks good. For example, I know that my shape is pretty unique. I’m more of an upside triangle, a little bigger on top and virtually no curves on the lower half. Knowing that my…ummmm…top is in good shape, I look for clothes to compliment that. While I don’t wear ultra low-cut shirts, I do wear things that flatter me. I also recognize the fact that my backside is like a two-by-four. I try to look for jeans that give a little lift in order to give the illusion of a curvier behind without the need for butt implants.
Here are a few simple tips to wear what best complements your unique shape:
• Pear-Shaped (small breasts with a large backside)- Flatter your slender shoulders with some strappy camis, halter dresses and other tops with thin straps. To take the focus off your larger assets, wear flowing skirts and dresses.
• Hourglass (large breasts, small waist, and wide hips)- You’ve got a shape to die for! Accent your curves with wrap-around dresses, pencil skirts, corset tops, and V-neck blouses.
• Triangular (large breasts, small waist, and small hips)- For us ladies lacking in the rear department, I suggest jeans that will lift and hold, and semi-form fitting dresses. Find a dress that is cinched at the waist in order to add more curves.
• Boyish (small breasts, waist, hips, and lacking curves)- Don’t rush out for a breast augmentation! Instead, look for broad straps and add a belt to define your waist. Cropped jackets and hip-hugging jeans also add the illusion of curves.

Don’t let your shape get in the way of finding some great outfits. There’s something out there for everyone in every shape. Wear what makes you feel feminine and look outstanding! Accentuate your womanly curves; those you have and those you’re giving the illusion you have.

Wonderful post. But waht about us woman that have nice legs but are a little bigger around the middle. Any ideas?

If you’ve got great legs, show them off! But like I’ve said in my other posts, stick to one focus area. If you’re worried about your middle, try a large belt or wrap-around dresses. You can hide a tummy with the illusion of more flattering curves or by choosing tops with some scrunching in that area. Hope that helps!

HELLLLLLLLLLLP!!!! My S.O. recently lost a lot of weight and unfortunately lost too much of her butt. Are there any concerns that manufacture butt-enhsncing pencil skirts (the pencil skirts I’VE seen do not do it) and jean skirts of moderate length? Bisou makes a great jean skirt but that’s the only one I know. And please–PADDED PANTIES JUST DON’T MAKE IT, so don’t suggest THEM. I’m at the end of my rope!

That’s “butt-enhancing”, sorry, typo. Better still’d be skirts/dresses that are butt-ACCENTUATING.

Hello Blackie, I did a little research on this and found a couple of things that could help. If you’re looking for jeans, there are a few companies that offer butt lifting jeans without any padding. They are designed to tighten the area and lift for a natural look. Also, if you’re looking into skirts, I recommend those with darting in the seat. They usually do well in enhancing the rear and being a fellow “no-butt” gal, I look for anything that helps! Happy shopping

THANK YOU VERY MUCH, JENNY!! I suppose the skirts’ll need to be altered. Don’t know if you can find ‘em seat-darted. If you know of any stores and or lines please do tell me!!!!

Glad I could help! And as I was looking around, I didn’t see anywhere to purchase them with the darting. You’ll more than likely be better off getting them altered.

Lou – It sounds like you have an hourglass figure. You’ll be able to find some great outfits to compliment your body shape almost anywhere. If you want to hide your arms just wear three-quarter sleeves, they’ll give you coverage and with the weather getting a bit cooler soon, you’ll be right set for the season! Hope that helps and thanks for reading!

My shape is weird. I have a big butt and a very small waist (like, 23 inches), and even though I have small breasts, I have broad shoulders and my limbs (arms and legs) are rather big. I can’t decide whether I’m an hourglass or a pear or something else. I’m finding it really hard to find flattering clothes. Any tips?
