As I brush my hair after I shower, I notice that a lot of it ends up on my brush. This has been happening for quite some time but I’ve never really thought too much of it. I come from a family with full heads of hair so going bald isn’t something I fear. However, I do fear the day that I see a gray hair. My mom has been dying her hair since she was very young, and while her brothers and sisters have lush mounds of hair, they’re all salt and peppered!
Like any other twenty-something woman, I often look to celebrities for inspiration on fashion, makeup, and various other aspects, including hair styles and color. What I’ve recently noticed is that many of our aging celebrities have embraced their silver manes, including men.
While that doesn’t really help my case, I did find it interesting that many of these leading men are often seen as the most attractive in Hollywood. For example, self-proclaimed lifetime bachelor George Clooney has been proudly strutting around his salt and pepper head for quite some time. The likes of Jon Stewart, Anderson Cooper, Richard Gere, Eric Danes, and Will Smith are amongst the many others donning the popular hair trend.
As for the ladies, well…most of them opt for hair dye. But I do have to point out two lovely ladies that wear their silver hues quite well – Meryl Streep and Jamie Lee Curtis. Kudos to them for embracing their age. Most everyone else in show biz heads for the bottle (the hair dye bottle), including Jennifer Lopez, Paul McCartney, Sophia Loren, Ben Stiller, Priscilla Presley, and Michael Douglas. There are only a select few that can still pull off a “natural” color, while others should probably throw in the towel…that would be you Mr. Douglas.
So what shall I do on the dreaded day I see a white hair? I’ll keep you posted
