When it comes to my fashion sense, I like to think of myself as a person who stands outside of the box. Let me clarify, I would define my style as comfortable and chic — yet, in a way, sloppy?
I guess I can say I have a style all my own. Outside of work, I can be regularly seen wearing layers of necklaces, bracelets, scarves, darker makeup, darker clothes, and slip on tennis shoes (my shoes always come untied). I look a bit gothic, punk, grunge, yet girly.

In high school, I was given the award for “Have you ever worn that twice?,” because I never wore the same outfit twice. At the time, I had two closets and was obsessed about my body and what to wear; now, not so much.
Oh, how the years have changed me!
Now, I pick out my shirt, pants, layer up, and I am ready to go. In my latest quest for a look that’s practical, cheap, comfortable, and fits in with “my style,” I have caught on to a not so new trend.
So, pardon me as I explain my newest obsession that has taken over my entire wardrobe—leggings, my new pants!
Although they may be old news to some, they are number one on my list right now. As I became tired of the same old look that jeans gave me with my shirts, I ventured out and bought what I had seen so many other women wear beneath dresses — leggings.
When I tried them out the first day, I paired them with a nice dress and some heels. It looked good. They were not too casual, and not too fancy. The next day, I wore a long tunic, nice flats, and they worked well, too.
Then one afternoon, as I was rushing to get ready for a family gathering, I decided hastily to throw on my black leggings and my favorite Sinful shirt. Although a lazy decision on my part, the decision has worked out quite nicely.
As the day progressed, I received numerous compliments on my outfit, felt extremely at ease, and was not constricted by my tight fitting jeans! Since then, I have worn leggings just about every day since. They have replaced my jeans, and have been beneficial so far. They were even what I wore to my recent trip to South Dakota. Hiking through caves, visiting Sturgis, and exploring Mount Rushmore, they held up well.

And, with more and more companies and individuals like Lindsay Lohan and her new clothing brand 6126 (named after Marilyn Monroe’s birth date) coming out with new leggings all the time, I am sure my style will be here to stay for some time to come.
So, if you are looking for a new way to spice up your old T-shirt (no matter how long or short) and are tired of your old jeans, consider leggings in any color! And, if you don’t feel like spending $123 for Lohan’s new styles, then check out Charlotte Russe. I just bought a cute pair for only $10! With cuffs at and stars on the bottom of each leg, these leggings will go great with any tee.
Happy shopping!
WARNING- Beware ladies, some leggings, if not thick enough, will be transparent if you are bent in the right direction. So make sure that if you do wear a short tee your leggings are thick enough to wear in public.

I totally love the legging look! It is comfortable, affordable, and very cute! Plus, I can wear them even on my “fat” days. LOL.
They just always work! Great post Sarah!

This is def becoming the new trend. While I can never see myself in leggings after the 80s, my daughter is quite fond of them wearing as is, under skirts, under dresses, etc. They can be cute if worn correctly.

I love these but I’m always afraid that I’ll look ridiculous in them…maybe I’ll get a pair and try them out!

Thanks Sara! They are very useful on my “fat” days as well, haha.
Jen, yes, they are cute if worn correctly! And I think this trend will stick around for a while!=)
Jenn, you should definitely go out and try a pair! That was how I felt at first too, but they are just so comfy and versatile!

Being a puffy woman I am not sure they would work on me. I am worried that I would get a muffin top. I still want to give them a try but I am not sure I am ready. Maybe after I loose 10 more pounds.

Leggings are quite the trend these days and just about everywhere. But, it’s not really gotten to me yet. Plus it kinda makes me conscious if I’m spotting a camel toe ![]()

Hi Jacquie, it doesn’t matter what size you are, you can wear leggings. They come in a variety of sizes, and are rarely ever super tight. They have very elastic waistbands on them, which is a reason I love to wear them. They feel like my skin. And when I do spot a roll hanging over, I just pull them up a bit more to cover it. After all, in most cases you’ll be wearing a long shirt so no one will see how they fit at the top =) Go out and try them! They may take a bit getting used to, but I bet you’ll like them. Target has some cute and cheap ones right now.
And Beauty Tyrant, I can see how you might be fearful that the leggings may be too tight in the groin region!=) But as long as you find a pair that is comfortbale, you should be okay. Most are not tight and just super stretchy. And, if you wear longer shirts or dresses with them you won’t have to worry at all. =)

I really like leggings too, they are so much more comfortable than tights! They look good with boots too in the winter.
