Lemonade Diet

Posted by Jennifer at 8:16 am

The lemonade diet lasts for 10 days. Some of you may have heard of the “lemonade diet” in the past. However, it’s not meant for weight loss, but as a form of detoxifying the body. This diet aims to cleanse the intestinal walls and colon, rebooting metabolism, and riding the body of toxins. For 10 days, about a gallon of this lemonade is to be taken throughout the day while fasting. Water, fresh-squeezed lemon juice, organic maple syrup, and cayenne pepper make up this lemonade. It is also accompanied by a salt-water flush in order to help rid the body of toxins.

When I first heard about it I was little skeptical about not eating anything for 10 days, because I love food! How was I going to survive on lemonade alone? I have to admit, the first day was torture. By 3 o’clock in the afternoon, I already had a pounding headache and everything I heard of, smelled, or looked at was becoming very appetizing. However, it was nice hearing my co-workers cheering me on as I sipped my lemonade.

The taste was definitely something I had to get used to, especially with the cayenne pepper. But after a couple of glasses it wasn’t so bad. At first, it tasted just like lemonade, but the aftertaste kind of made me shudder in the beginning. If you don’t know what to expect it can be very surprising. By the third day, I was no long feeling any hunger, but I didn’t have very much energy to do anything. The comfort of my bed was very appealing after a few days with no food.

Sadly, I only made it to day four. My body could no longer handle being deprived of food and let me know in a painful way. While I know that I had the will power to hold out all 10 Keep your body toxin-free with healthier food choices.days, my body couldn’t take it anymore. This detox is not meant for everyone and those that do try it should be careful in paying attention to how your body reacts. I have to say that I’m proud of myself for resisting all the yummy food around me, and at least trying the diet out. Four days is about half-way through; much better than I had expected. Now I know that I can control my food intake a lot better and stay healthy.

Has anyone ever tried a similar diet?

The pepper did take some getting used to and I don’t think I’ll be trying this again soon! Maybe in six months .

As for the recipe, here you go:

    Lemonade Diet Recipe
For at least 10 days, drink around 10 servings/day of the following:
    • 2 Tablespoons (1 fluid ounce) fresh-squeezed lemon or lime juice NOT BOTTLED JUICE!! (approx. 1/2 lemon),
    • 2 Tablespoons (1 fluid ounce) organic Grade B maple syrup,
    • 1/10 Teaspoon or more cayenne pepper (hot red pepper), and
    • 1 Cup (8 fluid ounces) purified or spring water, NOT fluoridated water.
    Salt-Water Flush Recipe
Upon rising drink a mixture of:
    • 2 level teaspoons of uniodized sea salt to a…
    • quart of lukewarm water
Herbal Laxative Tea (You can find this at most grocery stores) at night.

Good luck to anyone who tries it!
