Hectic schedules at work can sometimes, well, leave our desks in a mess! With deadlines to meet and multiple projects to work on, some us find ourselves working in chaos. I know it may sometimes be hard to stay organized, but it could help you work more efficiently and much more smoothly. It is time for you to get organized!
At work, I try my best to always keep my desk clean and give everything its own place. The key to staying organized is to make it a constant routine throughout your day. So for those of you finding yourselves working around a pile of papers and complete clutter, I came up with a few of tips to help you keep your work-space in tact.
Here are some of the tips I came up with:
*Keep your desk paper free, only have paperwork out that has to do with what you are currently working on. Everything else should be filed, in a folder, and stored in its own place. Having extra paperwork out is overwhelming and distracting.
*Have a tray at the end of your desk for work in and out, that way no one is just throwing paperwork all over your workspace.
*If you are running out of filing space, it might be time for you to sort through old paperwork. If it is a year old and you don’t even remember what it is, it may be time for it to hit the paper shredder. (Check with a supervisor to make sure you don’t need it).
*To keep yourself on track with multiple projects, use a calendar to meet deadlines. Set one up on your computer and make it your priority to check it immediately when you come into work. From there, you can prioritize your time to work on them.
*Only keep the necessary windows open on your computer. (Don’t worry, they have this amazing function called “Save,” use it every once and while).
*Get rid of excess junk on your desk, i.e. knick knacks, picture frames, coffee mugs, etc. Hang things on walls; don’t set them where they can take up too much room.
*Take out the last ten minutes of your day to organize and delete unimportant e-mails or continue to delete and organize throughout your day (that is usually what I do), whichever is easiest for you.
These are just a few of the many ways you can stay organized at work. If you get yourself into a well-organized routine, you may be more productive and get more work done; which could make your life less stressful and give you more time to relax.
