Oscar Fashion – An Evening of Shoulder-Baring Glam

Award season can definitely get a bit overdone…‘cause they all seem about the same. You have the pre-show on E! with bad to OK interviews, the presenters who present scripted introductions to the nominees, and acceptance speeches that either make you cry or want to turn the channel. HOWEVER, from the Academy Awards to the Grammy Awards, and the Emmy Awards to the indie Spirit Awards; I’m the first to admit that I watch them all! The fashion choices are always exciting to view (and judge).

Unfortunately, I missed last night’s Oscar Awards. Somehow it slipped my mind! Fortunately, this morning, Jennifer kept me up-do-date and e-mailed me tons of celeb photos. Here is what hit the red carpet last night:

•    Strapless, and one-shoulder strapped gowns
•    Bias-cut mermaid-esque dresses
•    Brighter-the-better tones
•    Jeweled material
•    Oversized prints

My favorite was Alicia Keys’ lilac flowy number (looked beautiful against her skin!) and the simple black gown that hugged Angelina Jolie’s body just beautifully (bringing sexy back). I definitely appreciate many of the other fashion choices, but these were my fave. Check out the pics that Jennifer sent me below, and share your thoughts about what is hot this season:

    I didn’t get to watching the Oscar’s last night, but I love, I mean REALLY love Alicia Key’s dress. She looks gorgeous and it doesn’t hurt that pink is my favorite color. =) Great post Elana, thanks for sharing!

    I was a huge fan of Ann Hathaway’s dress! She always looks amazing!
    I also saw a lot of toned down jewlery (just wearing small studs and no necklace) and if they did have more on, it was one statement piece instead of goddy stuff…
    I think the style this year was the best!

    Thanks for reading it! Anne Hathaway did look beautiful — you’re so right Lauren. Oh and Mellori — it’s like, could Angelina be any more beautiful?!?!

    I liked the over the shoulder dresses, especially Kate Winslet’s. And even though they were similar, I also loved Reese Witherspoon and Queen Latifa’s blue one shoulder gowns as well!
